Written, produced by, and starring Max Baer, Jr. – well-known as Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies – 1974’s Macon County Line made claims that it was based on a true story. Directed by Richard Compton, who later in the ’80s would direct action TV shows like Hill Street Blues and TJ Hooker, the movie might be about the two young rabble-rousers who we meet in the beginning, but it might be about the sheriff in Macon County, who we meet near the middle.
