I just got my copy and am about to start reading We Are Only Taking What We Need, a short story collection by Stephanie Powell Watts, who is one of the contributors to Children of the Changing South: Accounts of Growing Up During and After Integration. Watts has been honored with the Ernest J. Gaines Award for one of the stories, and she is also a PEN Hemingway Finalist for the collection. The book also made The New Yorker‘s Best Books of 2012 list, which was posted online last week. Congratulations to her for what I’m already certain is an extraordinary story collection!
