#throwbackthursday: The Montgomery Children’s Walk, December 2005
In 2005, I was on the planning committee for The Montgomery Children’s Walk, an event held on December 1st of that year to involve young people in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the arrest of Rosa Parks. I wasn’t involved in the immense logistics β I and another teacher created the educational resources, the curriculum, and the website β but you can tell from this picture that there were a lot of people. I heard estimates ranging from 4,000 to 7,000, which seemed feasible to me. When I took this picture, I was back near the Court Square fountain, and you can see that the front of the group reached all the way to the Capitol steps.
