The Gathering Year @ Madison Park

This morning, we had a very successful event at the Madison Park Community Center for The Gathering Year project to help document that important community’s history in Montgomery County. Madison Park was founded by freed slaves in the late 1800s, and throughout the 20th century, this small African-American community situated between Montgomery and Wetumpka has produced generations of successful and important men and women. We had a steady stream of people to interview and photographs to scan.  I was quite pleased to interview eight people in five separate sessions. Ultimately, all of the information, stories, and images collected in The Gathering Year will be accessible in an online database hosted by Auburn University.
