Last night, at the Read Herring Bookstore, we held the release event for Closed Ranks: The Whitehurst Case in Post-Civil Rights Montgomery. We had a great crowd that packed the bookstore all the way to the front door, and the discussion was full of thoughtful questions. Bernard Whitehurst, Jr.’s widow Florence and sons Stacy and Bernard III were in attendance, and Stacy spoke briefly. If you missed the event last night and want an autographed copy, Read Herring has those in stock— and if they run out, we’ll gladly sign more!
I want to thank NewSouth Books’ editor-in-chief Randall Williams and publisher Suzanne LaRosa for doing such a stellar job in editing and packaging Closed Ranks, as well as the whole staff for their efforts and friendship.
